The first book was published in 1991 and by 2011 it came out six sequels. Won the People's Choice and Teen Choice Award six. Very quickly gained popularity and cult status among younger generations.

Then Elena learns she was adopted and that her biological parents John, her "uncle" and Isobel, wife of former teacher of history and a vampire hunter Alaric (Matt Davis).
